What are LLMs?
1 min read
LLMs stand for Large Language Models. They are AI tools that understand and generate human-like text. They are the technology behind ChatGPT, Claude, and other text-based AIs. These are AI systems that are trained on massive amounts of text to understand language, answer questions, write content, and solve problems through conversation.
Different types of LLMs
- ChatGPT (OpenAI): Versatile and fast, great for everyday tasks
- Gemini (Google): Multi-modal, integrates seamlessly with Google services
- Claude (Anthropic): Deep analysis, long documents, and structured writing
- Copilot (Microsoft): Built into Microsoft products for workplace use
- Perplexity: AI-powered search and research
When should you use them?
- Writing assistance: Emails, reports, articles, scripts
- Research and summaries: Condensing long documents
- Problem-solving: Brainstorming, strategizing, planning
- Learning: Explaining complex topics simply
- Editing: Improving tone, grammar, clarity
They're perfect for students, professionals, creators, and anyone who works with text or needs intelligent answers fast.
How do they work?
You type a question or task. The AI draws on everything it learned from billions of text examples, interprets what you need, and generates a response in seconds. The better your input, the better the output, which is exactly why learning to prompt well makes all the difference.
